《Finite Simple Group of Order Two》,著名 filk 歌曲。(什么是filk?参考wikipedia

    附上歌词:

Finite Simple Group (of Order Two)
    The Klein Four Group

The path of love is never smooth
    But mine's continuous for you
You're the upper bound in the chains of my heart
You're my Axiom of Choice, you know it's true

But lately our relation's not so well-defined
And I just can't function without you
I'll prove my proposition and I'm sure you'll find
We're a finite simple group of order two

    I'm losing my identity
    I'm getting tensor every day
    And without loss of generality
I will assume that you feel the same way

Since every time I see you, you just quotient out
The faithful image that I map into
    But when we're one-to-one you'll see what I'm about
'Cause we're a finite simple group of order two

    Our equivalence was stable,
A principal love bundle sitting deep inside
But then you drove a wedge between our two-forms
    Now everything is so complexified

When we first met, we simply connected
My heart was open but too dense
    Our system was already directed
To have a finite limit, in some sense

I'm living in the kernel of a rank-one map
From my domain, its image looks so blue,
'Cause all I see are zeroes, it's a cruel trap
But we're a finite simple group of order two

I'm not the smoothest operator in my class,
But we're a mirror pair, me and you,
So let's apply forgetful functors to the past
And be a finite simple group, a finite simple group,
Let's be a finite simple group of order two
    (Oughter: "Why not three?")

I've proved my proposition now, as you can see,
So let's both be associative and free
And by corollary, this shows you and I to be
    Purely inseparable. Q. E. D.

    感想:背景不小啊……

    2009国际天文年(International Year of Astronomy)的推荐歌曲《Shoulders of Giants》

    歌词奉上:

    Shoulders of Giants
Music and Lyrics by Padi Boyd
© 2008, The Johannes Kepler Project

It was a calm and cloudless night but it was all still a blur
A shaking of our Universe was just about to occur
    It was Summertime... 1609
when Galileo used his telescope for the very first time

and he saw mountains and craters on the moon
and a Milky Way with thousands of stars
and he saw Jupiter, with four tiny moons
he was the only man on Earth that night who knew

    That Copernicus was right
    come outside with me tonight
and I can show you wonders of the world
    to surprise and delight
I've got my telescope with me
    just wait until you see
that on the Shoulders of Giants....
        ... we'll see beyond!

The world turns round and round now around 400 years have flown
since Galileo's telescope first focused the unknown
Now we use bigger glass to peer into the past
And we're discovering the Universe's secrets at last

And there are geysers on Saturn's icy moon
and planets circling hundreds of stars
while all the Universe expands like a balloon
from Galileo's tiny scope we've come so far

    Galileo was right
when he looked out in the night
and he discovered wonders of the world
    to surprise and delight
I've got my telescope with me
    just wait until you see
we'll stand on the Shoulders of Giants...

And every step follows the one before
and opens up a new frontier to explore
our 'scopes are dancing in space to see the beauty and grace
Oh, Galileo would approve, that's for sure
And still for me and you we can join in on this too
Just climb up here with me where we'll see more

It's a calm and cloudless night come outside with me tonight
and I can show you wonders of the world to surprise and delight
I've got my telescope with me just wait until you see (oh, wait until you see)
we'll stand on the Shoulders of Giants (Galileo knew)

    That Copernicus was right (Johannes)
Come outside with me tonight (Kepler found those)
and I can show you wonders of the world (planetary motions on the)
to surprise and delight (Shoulders of Giants)
I've got my telescope with me (And Isaac)
Just wait until you see (Newton found his)
we'll stand on the Shoulders of Giants (Universal Laws)
(He stood on the Shoulders of Giants...)
        ...to see beyond!

    红火了好一阵子的美剧《the Big Bang Theory》主题曲《History of Everything》

    歌词是少不了的:

    History of Everything

Our whole universe was in a hot dense state,
Then nearly fourteen billion years ago expansion started. Wait...
    The Earth began to cool,
    The autotrophs began to drool,
    Neanderthals developed tools,
We built a wall (we built the pyramids),
Math, science, history, unravelling the mysteries,
That all started with the big bang!

"Since the dawn of man" is really not that long,
As every galaxy was formed in less time than it takes to sing this song.
A fraction of a second and the elements were made.
    The bipeds stood up straight,
The dinosaurs all met their fate,
They tried to leap but they were late
And they all died (they froze their asses off)
    The oceans and pangea
See ya, wouldn't wanna be ya
Set in motion by the same big bang!

It all started with the big BANG!

It's expanding ever outward but one day
It will cause the stars to go the other way,
Collapsing ever inward, we won't be here, it wont be heard
Our best and brightest figure that it'll make an even bigger bang!

Australopithecus would really have been sick of us
Debating out while here they're catching deer (we're catching viruses)
    Religion or astronomy, Encarta, Deuteronomy
It all started with the big bang!

Music and mythology, Einstein and astrology
It all started with the big bang!
It all started with the big BANG!

    SWIFT

We know that gamma ray explosions happen randomly all over the sky
(It's like a lottery: a ticket for each square degree)
You see a FLASH! and then there's not another till about a day has gone by
(But that depends upon detector sensitivity)
In just a moment they spew energy worth (That's pretty fast)
A value we can't even fathom on Earth (It's really vast!)
But just what's giving rise to gamma ray sparked skies?
Is it the death cry of a massive star or black hole birth?
(Or both, or both? or both!)

    Chorus:
    Swiftly swirling, gravity twirling
    Neutron stars about to collide
Off in a galaxy so far away
    Catastrophic interplay
A roller coaster gamma ray ride
    Superbright explosion then
    Never to repeat again
How are we supposed to know?
    How about a telescope rotation
    Swiftly onto the location
    Of its panchromatic afterglow?

In just a moment gamma ray bursts reach a peak and swiftly fade from view
(It's like a beacon shining clear across the Universe)
But they leave embers in the longer wavelengths fading for a day or two
(It's exponential -- it decays forever)
To solve this space age mystery is why (We wanna know)
We want to catch a thousand bursts on the fly (What makes' em go?)
Their X-ray light disperse unlock the Universe
Measure their distance from their redshift mark their spot on the sky
    (They're where? They're here! They're there! They're everywhere!)

    (Chorus)

    Swiftly swirling, gravity twirling
    Neutron stars about to collide
Off in a galaxy so far away
    Catastrophic interplay
A roller coaster gamma ray ride
    Superbright explosion then
    Never to repeat again
How are we supposed to know?
Swift is the satellite that swings
    Onto those brightly bursting things
To grab the multiwavelength answer to what makes them glow

It's like a lottery - a ticket for each square degree
It's like a beacon shining clear across the Universe
Swift is the satellite that swiftly swings all over the sky
Swift is designed to catch a burst of gamma rays on the fly

    Carl Sagan亲自读的《The Pale Blue Dot》(暗淡蓝点)片段,加上配乐绝对让人疯狂……

    文字:

From this distant vantage point, the Earth might not seem of any particular interest, but for us, it's different. Consider again that dot...That's here. That's home. That's us. On it, everyone you love, everyone you know, everyone you ever heard of, every human being who ever lived, lived out their lives. The aggregate of all our joys and sufferings, thousands of confident religions, ideologies and economic doctrines, every hunter and forager, every hero and coward, every creator and destroyer of civilizations, every king and peasant, every young couple in love, every hopeful child, every mother and father, every inventor and explorer, every teacher of morals, every corrupt politician, every superstar, every supreme leader, every saint and sinner in the history of our species, lived there on a mote of dust, suspended in a sunbeam.

The earth is a very small stage in a vast cosmic arena. Think of the rivers of blood spilled by all those generals and emperors so that in glory and in triumph they could become the momentary masters of a fraction of a dot. Think of the endless cruelties visited by the inhabitants of one corner of the dot on scarcely distinguishable inhabitants of some other corner of the dot. How frequent their misunderstandings, how eager they are to kill one another, how fervent their hatreds. Our posturings, our imagined self-importance, the delusion that we have some privileged position in the universe, are challenged by this point of pale light.

Our planet is a lonely speck in the great enveloping cosmic dark. In our obscurity ... in all this vastness ... there is no hint that help will come from elsewhere to save us from ourselves. It is up to us. It's been said that astronomy is a humbling, and I might add, a character-building experience. To my mind, there is perhaps no better demonstration of the folly of human conceits than this distant image of our tiny world. To me, it underscores our responsibility to deal more kindly and compassionately with one another and to preserve and cherish that pale blue dot, the only home we've ever known.

    08年最后一天的APOD(Astronomy Picture Of the Day),令人叹为观止的《Sky in motion》

    via this link

    The Large Hadron Rap

Twenty-seven kilometers of tunnel under ground
Designed with mind to send protons around
A circle that crosses through Switzerland and France
Sixty nations contribute to scientific advance
Two beams of protons swing round, through the ring they ride
‘Til in the hearts of the detectors, they’re made to collide
And all that energy packed in such a tiny bit of room
Becomes mass, particles created from the vacuum
    And then…

LHCb sees where the antimatter’s gone
ALICE looks at collisions of lead ions
CMS and ATLAS are two of a kind
They’re looking for whatever new particles they can find.
The LHC accelerates the protons and the lead
And the things that it discovers will rock you in the head.

We see asteroids and planets, stars galore
We know a black hole resides at each galaxy’s core
But even all that matter cannot explain
What holds all these stars together – something else remains
This dark matter interacts only through gravity
And how do you catch a particle there’s no way to see
Take it back to the conservation of energy
And the particles appear, clear as can be

You see particles flying, in jets they spray
But you notice there ain’t nothin’, goin’ the other way
You say, “My law has just been violated – it don’t make sense!
There’s gotta be another particle to make this balance.”
And it might be dark matter, and for first
Time we catch a glimpse of what must fill most of the known ‘Verse.
    Because…

LHCb sees where the antimatter’s gone
ALICE looks at collisions of lead ions
CMS and ATLAS are two of a kind
They’re looking for whatever new particles they can find.

Antimatter is sort of like matter’s evil twin
Because except for charge and handedness of spin
They’re the same for a particle and its anti-self
But you can’t store an antiparticle on any shelf
Cuz when it meets its normal twin, they both annihilate
Matter turns to energy and then it dissipates

When matter is created from energy
Which is exactly what they’ll do in the LHC
You get matter and antimatter in equal parts
And they try to take that back to when the universe starts
The Big Bang – back when the matter all exploded
But the amount of antimatter was somehow eroded
Because when we look around we see that matter abounds
But antimatter’s nowhere to be found.
    That’s why…

LHCb sees where the antimatter’s gone
ALICE looks at collisions of lead ions
CMS and ATLAS are two of a kind
They’re looking for whatever new particles they can find.
The LHC accelerates the protons and the lead
And the things that it discovers will rock you in the head.

The Higgs Boson – that’s the one that everybody talks about.
And it’s the one sure thing that this machine will sort out
If the Higgs exists, they ought to see it right away
And if it doesn’t, then the scientists will finally say
“There is no Higgs!  We need new physics to account for why
Things have mass.  Something in our Standard Model went awry.”

But the Higgs – I still haven’t said just what it does
They suppose that particles have mass because
There is this Higgs field that extends through all space
And some particles slow down while other particles race
Straight through like the photon – it has no mass
But something heavy like the top quark, it’s draggin’ its ***
And the Higgs is a boson that carries a force
And makes particles take orders from the field that is its source.
    They’ll detect it….

LHCb sees where the antimatter’s gone
ALICE looks at collisions of lead ions
CMS and ATLAS are two of a kind
They’re looking for whatever new particles they can find.

Now some of you may think that gravity is strong
Cuz when you fall off your bicycle it don’t take long
Until you hit the earth, and you say, “Dang, that hurt!”
But if you think that force is powerful, you’re wrong.
You see, gravity – it’s weaker than Weak
And the reason why is something many scientists seek
They think about dimensions – we just live in three
But maybe there are some others that are too small to see
It’s into these dimensions that gravity extends
Which makes it seem weaker, here on our end.
And these dimensions are “rolled up” – curled so tight
That they don’t affect you in your day to day life
But if you were as tiny as a graviton
You could enter these dimensions and go wandering on
    And they'd find you...

When LHCb sees where the antimatter’s gone
ALICE looks at collisions of lead ions
CMS and ATLAS are two of a kind
They’re looking for whatever new particles they can find.
The LHC accelerates the protons and the lead
And the things that it discovers will rock you in the head!

    也是很有创意的filk歌曲《Relativity Song(Relativity Revisited)》,使用著名《Yellow Submarine》的旋律

    歌词:

    SPECIAL RELATIVITY

Romer measured the speed of light,
and something basic just wasn’t right.
    because Michaelson and Morley
showed that aether fit data poorly.

    We jump to 1905.
    In Einstein’s brain, ideas thrive:
“The laws of nature must be the same
    in every inertial frame”
We all believe in relativity, relativity, relativity.
Yes we all believe in relativity, 8.033, relativity.

    Einstein’s postulates imply
that planes are shorter when they fly.
Their clocks are slowed by time dilation,
    and look warped from aberration.
Cos theta-prime is cos theta minus beta ... over one minus beta cos theta.
Yes we all believe in relativity, 8.033, relativity.

    With the Lorentz transformation,
    we calculate the relation
    between Chris’s and Zoe’s frame,
but all invariants, they are the same.
    Like B dot E and B-squared minus E-squared,
... and the rest mass squared which is E-squared minus p-squared.
’cos we all believe in relativity, 8.033, relativity.

    Soon physicists had a proclivity
    for using relativity.
But nukes made us all scared
    because E = mc^2 .
    Everything is relative, even simultaneity,
and soon Einstein’s become a de facto physics deity.
’cos we all believe in relativity, 8.033, relativity.

    GENERAL RELATIVITY

    But Einstein had another dream,
    and in nineteen sixteen
    he made a deep unification
    between gravity and acceleration.
He said physics ain’t hard at all
as long as you are in free fall,
’cos our laws all stay the same
    in a locally inertial frame.
And he called it general relativity, relativity, relativity.
And we all believe in relativity, 8.033, relativity.

If towards a black hole you fall
tides will make you slim tall,
but your friends won’t see you enter
    a singularity at the center,
because it will look to them
like you got stuck at radius 2M .
But you get squished, despite this balking,
and then evaporate, says Stephen Hawking.
We all believe in relativity, relativity, relativity.
Yes we all believe in relativity, 8.033, relativity.
