叶泉志再命名小行星，“汶川星”命名提案提早审议 - [借花献佛]

在五月底，叶泉志（中大，大我一年）向国际天文联合会（IAU）提交了一份命名申请，把(161715) 2006 MZ12命名为“汶川星”，以悼念地震中的死难者。原本的规定是每两个月审议一次命名申请，也就是七月中下旬才有结果。为了加快进程，叶泉志向小行星中心主席Marsden博士写了封邮件如下：
Dear Brian,
I just submit the naming citation for (161715), it’s named after the
Great Wenchuan Earthquake for memorizing the deaths.
Is there any possiblity to publish it in the next full-moon circle
(June 19)? I hope I can make a little contribution to those who are
still alive, by naming an asteroid to let them know the deaths have
found a place in the heaven.
I understand this might not be possible.

6月18日IAU发布了小行星公报第63174号，通过了这一命名申请。
(161715) Wenchuan = 2006 MZ12
Discovered 2006 June 23 by Q.-z. Ye and T.-C. Yang at Lulin.
This minor planet is named in memory of the 90 000 people killed in the great Wenchuan earthquake on 2008 May 12.
